If we had the instructions printed by a printing company and included the packaging material and postage, our games would be much more expensive. And we don’t want that.

Of course, it varies from child to child, but most children aged 9 and older who can read comfortably will manage with the instructions on their own. Younger children should be assisted with the planning.
For the games, you can use various materials: paper, cardstock, cardboard, markers, stickers, scissors, glue, or even small stones, buttons, wooden pieces… basically, anything you like.
A printer is advantageous but not essential.
You can also draw the templates and designs yourself on paper or cardboard. (This might even emphasize the DIY aspect of your game even more!)
